HGV Traffic at Sherington Bridge

  • At recent Parish Council meetings residents have expressed concern at the level of HGV traffic at Sherington Bridge. HGV traffic on the B526 from Stoke Goldington to Newport Pagnell are barred from entering Newport Pagnell (except for access) so are being diverted over Sherington Bridge. Milton Keynes Council released the following traffic survey information to the Parish Council at the January Parish Council meeting.

  • MKC consider that up to 9000 vehicles a day might be expected to be using a road of this type, with 5% of the traffic being HGVs (i.e. 450 vehicles) and have pointed out that the actual numbers are much less than that.

  B526 Traffic Count at Lathbury

  • This data for southbound traffic (towards Newport Pagnell) was obtained for a 5 day period monitored 24 hours a day via loops in the road between 18th and 24th November 2012. Although the data was collected at Lathbury, the worst case assumption is that all the HGV traffic turned left over Sherington Bridge because of the Newport Pagnell restriction.
    Class 5 = HGV 3.5t to 7.5t, Class 6 and above = HGV 7.5t and above

    • 5 day Total Class 6-13 = 12 vehicles (0.5% of traffic)
