Sherington Pre-School provides a friendly, secure and caring environment in which children's learning is effectively fostered through a variety of themes, topics and practical activities using natural materials. The children are likely to achieve in all six areas of learning by the time they are five years old. Since the previous inspection the group has made good progress in developing its provision of resources for technology and in planning to include more cultural events and celebrations. Both areas are now good.
The programme for children's personal and social development is very good.
The development of children's language and literacy is very good.
The development of children's mathematics is good.
The development of children's knowledge and understanding of the world is very good, with many opportunities for the children to talk about their experiences.
The provision for children's creative development is good.
The quality of teaching is good.
Equality of access and opportunity is good.
All the resources are of good quality and are age appropriate, being suitable for use with children who have English as an additional language or who have special educational needs.

"This is a good playgroup. An interesting range of activities ensure that all areas of learning are covered.
Most children are likely to achieve appropriately in the six areas of learning by the time they reach five years of age.
Teaching is good, with emphasis on mathematics, language and literacy and the scientific area of knowledge and understanding of the world.
Personal and social development is promoted in this happy nursery.
Physical development is promoted well, despite restrictions on outdoor activity.
Creative opportunities are good.
Planning is excellent and assessment is effective.
Relationships between staff, children and parents are good, and enhance the quality of provision.
The nursery has developed both short and long term development plans.
